SOx

SOx in the ships uptake causes acid rain. Increased acidity of sea water and land is partly attributed to the ships emission containing H2SO4. IMO regulation of Global fuel oil (Distillate) sulphur limit of 0.5% is expected to enter into force in 2020/2025 and that of Baltic Sea would require 0.1%S in 2016. As the cost delta of distillate and heavy fuel is > $300, the choice will be between the abatement technology (scrubber) and alternative fuel (LNG). Depending on Ships trading duration in ECA in 2016 or depending on the age of the ships in 2020, installation of scrubber (FW/SW) or retrofitting LNG will remain as options. This requires mapping of CAPEX and OPEX against the lifetime of the ship. We provide consultancy for such feasibility study.
